| Campaign “Six weeks holiday! What are you going to do before you go back to school?” |

During the summer holidays in the Netherlands Sparrow started a large text messaging campaign "Six weeks holiday! What are you going to do before you go back to school?". Lots of children in the Netherlands think of school as something you must do, a daily aspect of your life. But in the Philippines many children are aware of the consequences of not being able to go to school. Without education you almost certainly end up in poverty as an adult, struggling to survive every day.
This is a day-to-day reality for a lot of children in the Lazareto neighbourhood, where Sparrow works. Most children live well below the poverty threshold. Their families have less than 30 eurocents a day to spend per person. To give them a future with hope Sparrow really wants to help these children to go to school. In the campaign "Six weeks holiday! What are you going to do before you go back to school?" people are asked to send a text message by mobile phone to 3010, containing the text 'donate sparrow', thereby automatically donating € 1,50 of their prepaid balance. Several websites display this advertisement and it also featured in the ROC-magazine (Regional Education Centre, a specific school type in the Netherlands). Donating in this way is easy, so Sparrow hopes to raise enough money to help several Philippine children to go to school.
